Cloud Strife, ex-SOLDAT, décide de s'isoler de ses anciens compagnons pour lutter contre les souvenirs de son passé, seul. Cependant, quand il se fait attaquer par le gang de Kadaj, Loz, et Yazoo, qui recherchent leur ''Mère'' pour commencer leur ''Réunion'', Cloud va devoir plus que jamais affronter les souvenirs qui le tourmentent.
